Why is the sensory group for parent and child together?
The sensory program is designed with the intent to introduce your child to ways of achieving a regulated state of emotion and behavior in order to perform in a more attentive, focused, and organized state for activities of daily living. Your child will also learn vocabulary using visual supports to help describe his state of regulation and what he/she needs from a sensory perspective. This is best accomplished while training you, the parent, as well, for implementation at home. Everyone uses sensation to support focus and attention. Correctly implementing these fundamental strategies can just possibly have a positive effect on your child's behavioral responses to his environment. This is not intended to take the place of private occupational or behavior therapy.
