Pediatric Therapy Intensive
Therapy Intensive is for families with children having significant delays. The program begins with an in depth evaluation to determine the source(s) of the child's functional delay. If your child has had a recent private evaluation or an evaluation for an IEP we can work from the most recent evaluation. During the initial phone consult we can determine if a new evaluation is indicated.
In early development, neural pathways are formed in the brain to guide fundamental and complex thoughts and actions. When these pathways are faulty they need to be re-laid to ensure the child will:
In early development, neural pathways are formed in the brain to guide fundamental and complex thoughts and actions. When these pathways are faulty they need to be re-laid to ensure the child will:
- - Move smoothly and effortlessly through his environment
- - Implement fine and visual motor skills for safe and skilled action
- - Process visual/auditory information in order to have efficient motor and cognitive processes - Have effective speech and language skills - Integrate sensory stimuli from the environment in order to have an appropriate action
The child's brain is neuroplastic, meaning it has the ability to develop new neural pathways.
During a child's age when academic and social challenges continue to increase, neuro-developmental intensive programming is worth consideration.
The intensive programming is liken to an adult training with an intensive gym workout routine. One time a week at the gym will yield results, but may not fully achieve the end goal in a timely manner.
In order to ensure optimal results for children requiring reorganization of the brain's pathways, therapy intensive is scheduled for 45-60 minutes at a minimum of two times per week; occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, or developmental/behavioral intervention.
Developmental behavioral structured programs are 4-10 hours per week. During the initial phone consult, it can be determined which developmental intervention is best for your child
Does this mean that less frequency and less duration can't achieve results? Not necessarily. It is frequent that a child does not require an intensive program. The brain does continue to process and integrate after the session is over and home programming contributes to reinforcement. After the initial comprehensive evaluation, you and the therapist can decide if a therapy intensive is right for your child.
