Why do we need an evaluation before starting therapy?
When we receive a request for therapy, it represents best practice for the therapist to administer a developmental and functional evaluation of strengths and weaknesses. This information helps determine where the breakdown is/was in your child's development that did not prepare him/her to perform specific skills at an expected age or to uncover the root of frustration. The therapist then has standardized scores and observations with reference to developmental norms for where your child compares to peers of his/her age. Goals are established from the findings which are written in a report with recommendations and discussed with you the parent(s). This report can be shared, at the parent's discretion, with other professionals who may be evaluating and working with your child.
Home Therapy Solutions' comprehensive evaluation starts with the phone intake, completion of a developmental history, and then we spend about 1 1/4 - 2 hours with you and your child.
