What is the criteria for my child to participate in the social skills group?
Social skills groups of 2 -4 children are led by a certified teacher for learning and practicing social behaviors. Manners, understanding other's cues, social expectations, social tolerance, and team work can be addressed with participants who have age expected language and behaviors but demonstrate difficulty with understanding social rules. Groups are tailored to meet the goals of the participants with preplanned lessons or themes. Each group registration is for a predetermined amount of weeks. Group classes are cancelled when there will be only one attendee. Fees for missed sessions can be applied toward the next registration period.
Therapy Groups:
The language-based group of 2 -4 children with similar social-language goals, led by a speech-language pathologist. Each potential participant will have first received a comprehensive speech and language evaluation, through Home Therapy Solutions or elsewhere, based on reported difficulties in those areas. A detailed report of findings and appropriate recommendations are provided to parents, which may include individual therapy and/or a social skills group. Placement in Home Therapy Solutions' social skills group is not guaranteed. Assignment to a group is based on the current caseload for an appropriate fit and availability. Placement from a waiting list is not necessarily on a first come first serve basis; placement is based on children's similarity of age and goals. Recommendation for a social skills group does not necessitate attending group through Home Therapy Solutions.
Each group registration is for a predetermined amount of weeks. Fees for missed sessions can be applied toward the next registration period.
Therapy group sessions are cancelled when there will be only one attendee. Parents will be given the option to convert that time to a private session, at the private session rate, if the child already receives individual therapy.
As with evaluations and individual therapy sessions, group sessions are included on monthly emailed invoices for submission to out-of-network benefits. It is recommended that you contact your insurance company for speech-language group eligibility plan coverage. Group sessions are at a reduced rate.
